Refurbished, Renewed, Open-Box, or New?

A plain-language comparison of common product conditions.

New

A new item should be unused and include the expected packaging and accessories. Confirm whether the seller is the retailer, manufacturer, or a marketplace merchant.

Manufacturer refurbished

The manufacturer or an authorized partner has inspected and restored the product under a defined process. Warranty length and cosmetic standards still vary.

Retailer renewed or open-box

These products may be returns, display items, or inspected inventory. Read the condition grade carefully and verify missing accessories or packaging damage.

When the savings make sense

A lower-condition item is most attractive when the discount is meaningful, returns are easy, the warranty is clear, and cosmetic wear does not matter for your use.
